CROSS COUNTRY AND COAST-TO-COAST: JAGUAR XF 2.2 DIESEL AVERAGES 52 MPG ON EPIC JOURNEY ACROSS AMERICA (LOS ANGELES, CA) - November 15, 2011 - A British team has crossed North America in a British specification Jaguar XF 2.2 Diesel averaging an incredible 52 MPG in US Gallons over 2,884-miles. Departing from New York, the team arrived in Los Angeles on November 14th. With a fuel range of over 800 miles, the XF 2.2 Diesel only required four stops for fuel. Its peak economy of 55.7 MPG was achieved on the penultimate day of the trip in the southwest US.
Paul Alcock, XF Project Manager, Jaguar Cars, who was present throughout the journey, commented: 'This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The incredible figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible – from its aerodynamics to its four-cylinder 2.2-liter diesel engine linked to an eight-speed gearbox. The whole XF team is incredibly proud of what's been achieved and is a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car.'
Driven by independent testers, David and Alexander Madgwick, the XF 2.2 Diesel was an unmodified, UK registered, right-hand drive vehicle. In the course of the coast to coast adventure, the car maintained an overall average speed of 53 mph through a multitude of real-life scenarios including construction zones, heavy traffic, high winds, and a climb to 7,275 feet above sea level.
Despite such efficiency, the XF 2.2 maintains the levels of performance and efficiency expected of a Jaguar. Capable of seating five adults in comfort, it's equipped with leather interior as standard as well as a touchscreen display. The XF 2.2 produces 187 hp and 332 lbs ft of torque, and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 8.0-seconds before reaching a top speed of 140mph.
An unmodified production vehicle, the XF was shipped from Jaguar's global headquarters in Whitley, Coventry, making it the first diesel Jaguar to enter the US. The project was been broadcast live on Twitter and on Facebook, charting the progress of the car as it crossed America. # # # Note to Editors: The XF 2.2 Diesel is a British specification vehicle, which is not on sale in North America, but is available in other markets around the world. It's not the first time that an XF 2.2 Diesel has embarked on a long-distance trip.
